    MAD... in order to be valuable some of the design needs to be missing (and minimally valuable even then).

    Minting coins is a giant industrial process... things come loose, parts wiggle, etc. - have you ever gotten a can from the supermarket where the label is a tiny bit off-center? Same gig.
