It looks like this dime has multiple clashes. What do you guys think? I would also like an estimated value to expect on ebay when I list it next week. Thx Z
Yes , it's a clash and a nice one. As far as value, I don't know. I don't buy errors, I just search for them.:smile
Interesting clash. I don't know what it should go for. I also don't know how a coin can be, like, triple-clashed, and also show the clash across the torch top (which is an incuse area of the die). I think I would like to see more pics or have it in hand to examine before being able to put a price on it.
dumb question but i don't know much about error coins and i was wondering what exactly the term "clash" is referring to when he says it is double or triple clashed.....if anyone has a second to explain it to me i would appreciate it....thanks
Dies become clashed when they strike each other with no planchet between them, leaving their impression on the opposite die.
I just read about die clashes. Shouldn't the reverse of this dime show images from the obverse? The reverse of this dime shows extra reverse images. I know nothing about this, so forgive me.
I don't know what you're seeing on the reverse that looks like extra reverse features. See that line running from the top of the torch to the top of the oak leaf cluster? That line is from the base of the bust. Then if you go around counter-clockwise from there you can see a well defined chin and going further, the top of the bust.
I've rotated the OP's picture 180 degrees - maybe you can better see Roosevelt's image profile this way. It looks like the dies may have chattered when they hit each other - I can see where that double chin did look a bit like the leaves on the reverse.
Ok, nevermind then. Now that it's upside down I see it. I was thinking that the part that is the neckline was part of a torch.
These can be confusing to see. At first I thought I was seeing the same thing you first saw, then I had to turn my brain upside down.
