    masterswimmer A Caretaker, can't take it with me

    Like Sal said, yes it is a wide AM. Congrats!

    The only thing is, that's the way it supposed to be minted. The close AM is the variety.

    Please concentrate on one coin at a time. Don't grab up a handful and post a slew of pics after watching a YouTube vid or seeing a one-in-a-million posted in a magazine. Makes it hard to help you help yourself that way.
    1989 = scratch under date. Maybe a bit greased on Liberty & ridge line issue.
    1999 D = a lot of wear & DDD.
    Reverse (I'm assuming 199D) = Plating Blisters & strike doubling
    1998D = environmental damage (stain) near Abe's forehead.
    1985D= dirty old coin
    1990 = 1990P w/stains

I dont do that to anybody. If you think i have I apologize I can tell your very interested in this hobby/profession and thats a good thing.. the 1988D coin your asking about, yea this particular coin, the "Wide AM" in the word AMERICA on the reverse is suppose to be like that. and the link SensibleSal66 posted is what people need to read about wide and close AMs, good luck to ya man

    On your 1990 P or no S question. The no S variety is for the Proof version.

    On the first photo, that is approximately where the head wound and powder residue was, so the photo is historically accurate.
