    Looks like zinc rot. I had a 1989 that looked like this.

    zinc rot/bubbling. NGC has slabbed some of these as errors.

    Couldn't he be showing us pics of not the plate split doubling but two wierd lines next to the serifs of the mintmark? I sort of see something there

    [/QUOTE] Hard to tell but yeah i suppose we must be skeptical of these things when determining its authenticity.

    I found almost the same coin but what caught my eye was the date on the edge? "outer rim" of the coin and it continues to the actual rim then stops before hitting the smooth face, also the rim on the reverse if looking at the coin completely sideways it's u shaped, like a embankment on both sides of a flat coin... it's heavy too, trying to find my scale now, any thought
