Good morning yall. I've been looking for error coins for awhile now and I always come up short, but this time i think i might have something and would really appreciate some opinions. Also if it is a legitimate error possible value. So its a 1988 D penny and the "error" is on the top of Lincolns head. It appears that there is a divot and it also hits the W in WE. When flipped over you can see a bump. I appreciate all the help
Yea , I agree with the "coin guru" @Inspector43 . DEF DAM or definitely damage as @paddyman98 usually says. Thanks for posting . Keep at it. Thanks for the extra pics .
Just when you think you have a real error, someone dashes your hopes, but do not be dismayed. The next coin could be a keeper and valuable. The information offered here is second to none, in my opinion, so learn all you can and review the sites which are recommended. @ksanderson Welcome aboard The CT Train. I hope you enjoy the ride and we look forward to your next threads.
Welcome to the neighborhood @ksanderson ! If this had been a true error, you would not see the "bump" on the reverse because the reverse die would have prevented it from happening. It's just PMD!
the fingers are clean and healthy and do not need an acetone treatment, and no visible damage. i am assuming the reverse is the same, though. the coin? spend it, if there is anything that can still be bought for 1 cent, other than another 1 cent (which may be a good idea if collecting).
Welcome to CT. PMD for sure, keep searching it's exciting and fun at the same time. Success is just ahead, thanks for the post.
Die deterioration, weak strike, wear...and then it was damaged. Can’t see the designers’ initials very well, but if they have serifs you have a Reverse of ‘89. Unfortunately, the condition of the coin severely negates value along those lines. Keep it if it is a Rev. of ‘89, as an example. A spender otherwise... ...Spark
