Clearly you are if you are thinking that a 1988 cent should weigh 3.1 grams. Also, @paddyman98 and @Dave363 are correct.

 

There are no 1988 Copper Cents. After mid 1982 they were made of Copper Plated Zinc Planchets

 

Nope. 1988 is 2.5g and is not 95% copper.

 

Well you have a real gem if that coin weighs 3.1 to the best of my knowledge they weigh 2.5 I would check my scale.JMO
