    Yes i have a 1987 D nickel and was hoping for some help on if its a wrong planchet error possibly..

    What you have there is a dirty nasty nickel that has probably spent some time in the dirt or somehwere else that it got enviromental damage. Its a spender.

    Yes to Environmental Damage. Your Nickel was affected by the elements. Soil, dirt, sand, dirty water etc. will do this to the surface of a nickel. I metal detect and have found plenty of Nickels such as yours over the years.

    This would be a true wrong planchet/off metal Mint error.
