Is this 1987 D die deterioration doubling or DDO. I am guessing die deterioration doubling due to the fact the doubling can only be found on the last two digits of the date (87).

    Thanks Dave

That is plated split doubling you could also see it on the mint mark as well ,not die deterioration or machine doubling or a doubled die.

Not a die variety, very common.

This coin is very common and is not any type of die variety - one of the reasons you see some doubling is the planchet was dished out, (or not thick enough when struck - it could be plating lift as the other person said but I think these planchets were rolled a little to thin or were struck with to much force. If you will notice the area (the last 2 numbers of the date are right in the area of the planchet where it tapers off sloping downward towards the central image. In other words it was struck on a curve or bulge.
    Thanks,

Plating split doubling a coin that exhibits doubling when there is wear on the die Here is a mint mark with planshet split doubling if you look at your mint mark and the last two digits of the date it;s looks simular in nature

This is EXTREMELY common from 85-89. 1989D are the worst for it.
