I know this coin is in crap condition, but I was hoping someone could tell me what's going on with the mint mark. I know there are several varieties of errors for this year, none that look like this.

I think that is the "zinc rot" variety.

I'm not familiar with that term, does it cause it to be raised up as high as the mint mark?

Zinc coated cents are truly an ERROR from the mint, but not worth anything above face value, in most cases. Your coin looks like a plating blister but @paddyman98 or others might have other ideas.

A defect in the plating or broken plating bubble can allow the underlying zinc to rot. That's what I think it is. Wait for others.

It's normal. It's common and it's only worth face value. It's made from zinc and coated with a thin layer of copper.

Didn't look like any of the known errors for 86D that is in Ken Potter book I have. Didn't know blistering could look like that.
