I got a 1986 penny, and on the back of the penny the s at the end of (states) and o in the word (of) are almost invisible. Can anyone tell me more about this. Im new in the error coin collection.
Yes.. It's called a Struck through grease or struck through debris issue. The incused letters on the Die that is used to strike the Cent became clogged and did not allow the Cent Planchet that was struck to have those letters form properly. It's a common occurrence. Not a weak strike and nothing major.
This is also the most common place for your CENT to have this common occurrence. @Alex Ly did you happen to notice that your coin is a CENT not a penny?
Alex...as per your other thread for the 1993 cent (not penny), both design issues and struck through grease issues contribute to the weakness of lettering and are very common Crappy design, crappy production, crappy materials equals crappy coins. Spark
A lot of countries in the world have pennies but the US no longer does. That is why "CENTS" in on the reverse. Last time I checked CT was still in the US.
