It's collectible, but it doesn't demand any high premium, maybe $2-$5.00 raw at the most. I have a hoard of them from separating 1986 commemorative sets. I sent all of the Ellis Island Silver $1 Comms. to NGC for certification. I believe I sent about 20.

    Happy Collecting!

Nothing special, but I certainly wouldn't call it crap.

Do you want to collect it? If so, then it is collectible. Crap vs collectible is your own personal decision.

I always loved the design. I didn't like that it was clad.
It was the first year for a clad Comm. half and they stuck with it.
If they had stuck with silver, I feel more folks would have collected them and not question if they are crap.

High mintages and low value doesn't equate to crap in my book. I reserve that for ugly designs.
I think this is very collectable. A popular subject and a well executed design in my opinion.

It is unfortunate that the design did not see circulation, as well.

I just picked up a pair for $8, I knew they are clad, etc....Just wondering if that series or any of the other modern commemorative halfs would be looked at as collectable to future generations. I think they are pretty cool, collectable I don't know?

Sure they are, now and will be in the future. At the same time I don't see value going up much in the next 50 years.
