My husband was handed a 1986 Indian Head penny while recieving change at a local store today. It seems to be in good condition, nice color, easily read. Is there anyway to determine the value of such a coin? If anyone has any tips or suggestions as to where I might take it to be examined, they would all be appreciated. Thanking You in Advance, Jeannine
I think you mean 1886 don't you? Many Indian Head Cents, particularly those made 1880 and later, are quite common, retailing for between $0.50 and $30+, depending on condition.1886 cents are actually worth more than a lot of years. It's an interesting thing to find in circulation.hopefully some kid didn't raid grandpa's coin collection for candy money.:smile Here is a table showing the values,go down to 1886 and then look at 2006 prices for all conditions. If you can supply a photo,we can better determine the condition. http://www.us-coin-values-advisor.com/indian-head-cent-1880-1891.html#1886
oops, yes, I meant 1886 actually. I will hopefully have a better picture of the coin soon. This is just a picture from a scan. Thank you for your reply.
Can't tell much with the small pic other than this - the coin appears to have been dipped in a cleaner. The pinkish cast to the color is a give-away.
