Hey I got this 1986 Gold Eagle Coin from my great grandfather. It says 1 oz. fine gold ~ 50 dollars. I was just wondering how much it is worth. Here is a picture of it.

    Welcome to the forum.

Well this current coin has two prices. Bullion gold is trading at $420.10 an ounce. Collectors also buy these coins as collectables. The current retail bid for this coin is $430.00

Typically you can sell these for spot gold price at just about any given time, or buy another just like it for $25 or so over the spot price...but remember that premiums do fluctuate. Remember y2k? Many people stockpiled gold anticipating the end of the world. When nothing happened, a lot of gold was dumped back into the market. I distinctly remember passing up large groups of these at slightly below spot because there just wasn't that much demand. Now, 4 years later, premiums (the amount over spot that dealers charge) are about the same as they were 10 years ago.
