Compared to a regular dime (rd) and my "86" (86)-rd is between .050 and .053 thick and the dia. is .704, the 86 is .043 thick and the dia. is between .745 and .753 and when the rd is lying on the table the edges are verticle whereas the 86 are for lack of a better term mitred, from what would be the edge outward toward the lamenation (why the dia. is much larger). On the face of the 86 the outer half of the letters of the word LIBERTY is almost mashed flat, and on the back all the letters are mashed the same way, but everything on both sides from mid way through the letters to the center is fine, no distortions Now I was told yesterday that it could be that grease had gotten between the die and the blank during stamping, I have had this dime for about 18 yrs. and have wondered. A coin that was struck outside it's retaining coller.When that happens it spreads out than a normal piece. B12
Broadstruck dimes are worth about $5. A grading service will charge way more than the coin is worth. So there's no point in submitting it.
Not true....grading helps many times but in most cases the grading Co. is not needed. .......and some people just don't want to collect error coins because they are HOT on the market right now and the prices are up... Speedy
