1986 D problem?

Ok I've seen this before on a couple of coins on a letter or two but not the entire obverse and some on reverse like on this one.. I figured it to be a grease filled die which is possibly the case here but looking for some insight ! Thanks

Die Deterioration
Also a bit of Environmental Damage affected the plating
