hello everyone. i was wondering if i may get some educated opinions. i have a 1986 d penny thats missing the L in liberty and from what i understand its not super uncommon for that year and mintage to be missing the L. however my coin also is totally missing the E and S in states and for the most part the o in of i wanna say its a double die but im fairly new to the coin scene and was hoping i could get some opinion on it
It's not a Doubled Die. Looks like a normal circulated cent with wear. And it was struck with a worn die.. That would cause the minor issues it has.
Excuse me DOUBLED DIE. How careless of me to leave out the d in doubled and forgive me for thinking that letters completely missing off the coin was just abit more than just minor issues
First, welcome to the neighborhood, Shawn! In time you will learn that there are differences in the terminology that can affect the meaning. Yes, it is very common for letters and/or numbers to be missing as the result of a grease-filled die, and it usually does not add to the value of the coin. ~ Chris
