The mark appears to be a D over D. How does one go about finding a value on coins like this? I cannot find this error listed in any of the books or literature I have. Would this mean that the error on this coin is not noteworthy?
Without better images it is impossible to see if this is indeed an RPM. the post '82 cents are known for plating splits around the mintmarks. It is impossible to tell which this is without better pics. Richard
What Richard said. Most like from the plating gone bad, or possibly strike doubling. But, without better pictures, we'll never know. However, I believe that by 1986 the MM's were on the master die. Mike?
I don't need better pictures that's split plated doubling on the mint mark they are very coomon on the 86, 87, 88, 89, cents mostly Here's a picture of split plated doubling on a 87 cent Jazz
I would attend to agree with jazzcoin with this being a split plated doubling. But without a better pic I can not say for sure. There are 13 differance RPM's for 1986 D and most of the Repunch are in the down stoke but a few are in this area. The value of most RPM's from 1985 D to 1989 D range from $7.00 to $25.00 depending on the grade.
So has anyone seen this type of variety where it's the date in the mint mark. I see doubling in the 9 to 8 and 6 wasn't sure if this was common it's also in Liberty
Okay by the pictures I think it’s Ddd. (Double die deterioration) http://www.error-ref.com/die-deterioration-doubling-incuse/ Perhaps Fred or @paddyman98 might have a better opinion.
That is DDD - Die Deterioration Doubling Not a variety. Also.. Why did you post on this old thread? You know it is better to create your own separate thread.
