1986 cool lookin error

    The "L" looks like a clogged die plus

    The "L" looks like a clogged die plus many late 1980's have that ripple area below the rim steching the motto, not a doublED die.
    I actually do not know what caused this ripple - maybe someone else knows?????
    It almost looks like when it went thru the up-setting mill it did not receive enough pressure or the planchets were to thin or the die was striking the coin with too much pressure????????????
    If anyones knows please let us in on it.
    It was mostly during the mid to late 1980's.

    I always chalked it up to die fatigue.

    The effect in both areas is caused by die deterioration.
