I cam across someone that has a monster box of 1986 Silver Eagles that he only took one roll out of. So he has 480 left. So here's my question.

I've noticed on eBay that some are in orange holders others are white with a green lid. The orange ones seem to sell for more money than the green ones. Why is this? He said he looked through them all with cotton gloves so I'm assuming they're all BU. So if they're in the green holders are they worth less money? Thanks.

I think the original ones from the mint have always been the white ones with the green lids. I've never come across the orange ones although I just did a ebay search and I do see a few of them.

It shouldn't affect the value at all, if anything I'd think the green ones would be preferable since that means they at least potentially haven't been moved.

It looks like you can get $700-$900 for B.U. rolls of 86' silver eagles based on completed Ebay listings, of course you should factor in the fees as well(and you may not want to sell on Ebay given the risks, not sure what kind of premium they will typically fetch on other venues). But it would be a pretty nice score if you bought them at a reasonable premium.

I can't imagine why anyone would be willing to pay $35-$45 each for '86 ASE's. o_O
