Heres a nice DDR and in early die state too . Here;s the link to wexler site http://www.doubleddie.com/828886.html
I'm not seeing the split serif on the R, the vertical bar on your E, and R is thicker than the one on the Wexler pic. You could just have a hit on the A.
wexler is a later die state, early die state should have a tighter split, as the die wears everything starts to spread and so does the design on the lettering too, as seen in wexler and I can take close ups and show what I'm talking about ... That's one long sentence ..........................
regardless of my grammar I don't see a split on the R. If yours is an earlier die state the letters should not be thicker than the one you are comparing it to. You may have it. Did you match any of the die chips? Is your fg doubled?
The letters look different to me. Look at the top left of the M. On Wexler's pic it's flat topped, yours is pointier. The left leg on your M bulges to the left, Wexlers's is bowed in. The letter A on his is asymmetrical the right leg being fat with the faint split serif, while the left leg is shorter, and skinnier. The legs of your coin's A bow out on the left while Wexler's is straight. Your marker chips are in a slightly different spot with a different shape. Based on what I see I can only conclude that they are not the same die.
The cross-reference for wexler is coppercoins DDR-001 http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1985&die_id=1985p1dr001&die_state=mds
Maybe someone else will chime in. As far as I can see the shape of the letters is all wrong. There does appear to be a split on the R though. Maybe a new variety?
Wexler does have three listing and even this one ( wexler ) doesn't have a variety . Coppercoins is close too ......
I'll see ken and jim next month at the coin show ... I also posted it on coneca forums ...............
With ref to the smiley used...sorry..I was not aware the expression was "pompous" which I did not mean.my bad.
I think it's a nice find,I can see what tomfiggy is saying regarding the difference in the letter's and it would be a great result if it is a new variety,a keeper for sure in my world,I must stress that I am a novice but i admire and trust the knowledge and opinions on a few regulars on this site, they're like the Jedi of coins..
Staging is everything, once the mint starts to notice things going on with the die, out comes the grinder to fix the issues ....
