It appears that the bottom of the last two digits has been wiped away. It is possible that this is post mint damage. Very best regards, collect89
to the forum. I understand that the coin counting/rolling machine wipes that part of the coin out. I've seen many coins with that mark on them.
To all: I would have said the same thing: post mint damage possibly from a coin counter. But-- look at the date, there is no raised metal from the coin counter puching the metal at the date, and it is very straight.
thanks again for your opinions, the date on the coin looks very clean so i dont think that some machine took it of, as you can see look at the number 8 it has a line at the botton it looks like if was made from the die. thanks
It is either struck through grease, or it is damage done by a counting machine. Look at WE of IN GOD WE TRUST and look at the LI of LIBERTY, they are all effected by the same thing. It was not struck by a damaged die. You may not see the scrape marks, the damage remains evident on the details but the scratches can sometimes wear away. Thanks, Bill
