Going through my Father-in-Law's collection I came across a 1985 Chicago Star Note (see picture). I referenced it to the Standard Catalog of United States Paper Money - 30th Edition (2011) by Krause Publications (pg 132). They have the note listed @ $200-FINE to $1600-GEM CU. Why would this note be listed to be worth so much more than the others? The run (1st) was 1,280,000 notes. This note appears flawless yet I'm unsure as to its actual condition as I do not want to risk removing it from its protective sleeve. Would it be worth having it graded or is the book incorrect?
I use both the Standard Guide to Small-Size US Paper Money (Schwartz-Lindquist), and the Collectors Guide to Modern Federal Reserve Notes (Azpiazu) and they show the Chicago (run 1) star note to be worth $8-$10 in CH-CU condition. The key note for this series is the St Louis (H*) star note.
I have the 19th edition of Freedberg, it lists the 1985 chicago star note at 6$ in ef, and 12$ in 63.
