1984 WQ DDR or maybe TDR?

    Out camping so sorry the pictures are not the best. My brother-in-law gave me a handful of change from his car. I saw this and had to post.

    Do you see all of those parallel striations pointing toward the rim? I'm inclined to think what you see is die deterioration until you can give us better photos.

    When a die deteriorates the surface becomes hilly and all kinds of funny things show up after the strike. You can tell that reverse die is deteriorated by the striations Chris mentioned. I'm inclined to think the separation in the letters is just the deterioration manifested against the letters. Imagine the letters coming apart just like what you see in the field. I think that's what we're seeing.

    Thanks, after looking again in the morning and less beer, it does look like DDD. I'll get better pictures later under my scope to see what is really going on. If not doubling, then a good example of extreme deterioration .

    Okay. Back home and better pictures. This is some really bad die deterioration!
