I think the person w/1095 feedback is a shill bidder. Placed bid at $1 and keeps on bidding up. I don't know anyone who bids like that, it drives the price up.

As of 2007 there were only 8 total graded MS 70, so I imagine it's registry set buyers bidding it up.

There is nothing there that looks like a shill bidder to me. Lots of people bid like that. Stupid, but they do it.

Just what about that bidding "drives the price up"?

Constant bidding drives price up. Once outbid, I would just wait until close to the end of auction.
Also, look at the one where the bid is only 1c over the others max bid. Would have to be very lucky to get 1c over in 1 try I think. Being the first bider and all the other coincidences. Smells fishy to me. (but I am non trusting with ebay)

1¢ over happens to me often.

The purpose of shill bidding is either to raise the price to the maximum the last bidder has bid (difficult to do or guess right) or to assure the item sells for at least $X.XX. If he is trying to maximize the bidder, he would never have the 2 highest bids. That is an indication he is trying to win it. If he is trying to assure $X.XX, he need only bid $X.XX less the bidding step 1 time. He is not even approaching either of those bidding patterns.

Some people just bid stupid. I have had bidders bid an auction up $1 at a time from $10 to $25. Why? If you are willing to pay $25, bid it.

    Just saw a 1984-S PCGS PR-69 D.CAM for $13.50 marked up from $12.
Can any of you truely see any difference between a 69/70?

Proof mintage was 3,065,110 only 8 @ PR-70 so far graded but you are right I'll take a PR -69 for $15.00 anyday over paying that much for a nickel that is only 25 y/o! Hell a 1971-S no S Proof in PR-67 DC is 2000.00 and its mintage was only 1600 +/- but for those of us who have deep pockets more power to ya.

Here you go. Look at this bidding - http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=130339314934

There are 2 bids at $0.11. There is a bid at $10.00 and another at $10.01. And 9***p ( 81) has 7 bids. I am not trying to say weird bidding is right, wrong or anything, just that it happens often.

Didn't know it happened like that often. THanks for showing. Wonder why the person w/81 bid 3 times in a row? I'll never understand why some people do what they do I guess.

He bid 3 times in a row to try to be the high bidder. If you look at the times, the $10 bid was before his 3 bids. When he bid $8.89, the auto bidding put the bid at $9.39 - until he bid $10.01.

I think that this coin will be worth a lot less in 10 years. There are over a million of those sets sitting bottom drawers all over the country. Probably less than 0.001% have been sent in for grading. There are more 70's out there I am sure.

    Registry set.

    Just junk in my opinion.

$1600 would have bought a decent 1913 S Barber quarter.

I agree, you can get a PR69DCAM for 1/100 of the price and it looks exactly the same.
