I came across a few of these but right now i just need to know if this is a mixture done wrong at mint or did someone replate or dipped it to make it shine again. I read that the bubble like feature is air trapped underneath and will sooner or later break open.It looks ugly for a close up view but from a feet away it shines red, or is this a buffed coin?
Plating bubbles are unfortunately common in 1982 and later Copper plated Zlincolns. The mint changed the specs after a couple years to thicken the copper layer which helps a bit. The problem is that if the bubbles break, it exposes the zinc to moisture which creates zinc rot and turns the cent into dust. It takes a while, but that's the end state of pretty much all of them unless they are properly preserved.
