Okay, please bare with me here. I've spent more than 100hrs the past 10 years trying to figure this one out. 1st, the octagon shape caught my attention and thought to myself Susan B Anthony. The shape matches, perfect. In fact, it will lock together. While comparing the two I found what looked like a star with faint lettering. This is what I seen "E*PLUR". I then referred back to the SBA and seen E•PLURIBUS with a star above. If you look closely to the star, below the "4", you'll ne able to make out a few letters. Please take a minute and think of possible ways before discounting. I've spent a lot of time fact checking, and matching. Let me know if you need any clearer photos. I've also seen lettering around the outside lettering. Wierd how in soft light it jumps out. In dark or bright light it disappears. Good luck.
I sure am sorry to be the one that has to tell you the bad news. This is a severly damaged quarter. It looks like someone was trying to make it look like a error coin but no error coin is even close to this. Where are you finding so many altered or damaged coins ? Anyway this is how the first man learned , just keep on trying and learning as you go.
Like I said. In my spare time, the past 10-12 years I've just looked over every bit of change. I have a few thousand. Some are quite odd. Thank you so much for your help. I've already learned a lot tonight. Its allowed me to discard some of what I had.
Someone had way to much time on their hands to do that much damage to it. It's a spender. Welcome to CT.
