    Hi All,

So I found my most interesting coin to date so far. It's a 1984 penny, but it looks like it had an extra layer of copper on a piece. The pictures aren't the best because of my phone but let me know what you think. On the sides it is actually part of the penny, but on the top it looks like it's lifting up!

I cropped the photos. I will try to get better ones after work today. Thanks for the advice playpossum0985.

Lamination error. Is there visible copper under the flap? If so, this could be a struck through error. Meaning the flap of copper could be debris from another coin.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I'm new (only a few months in) so any knowledge is good.

Yes, infact there is copper underneath this.

That flap of copper has a perfect 4 on it too!

Sounds like the flap piece was laying on top of the planchet when the coin was struck. Definatly a cool find! This would make it a struck through retained debris if im not mistaken. I'm not a pro, but I'm sure you will get some more opinions. As to value, I'll leave that to others. Try to get some beter pics posted, as close up and clear as possible. Straight on shots are the best but try to get a little angle and light under the flap. Try croping them to get only the coin in the pic.
