1984 double die AND error

    I have a 1984 double die penny. I also noticed while comparing it to other 1984 pennies that it has a wide AM while the other pennies don't.

    That's not die doubling, it's split plate doubling and it's common on plated pennies.

    What about the numbers though? The numbers are double die.

    Believe that if you want, but you'll be disappointed when it comes time to sell.

    The copper plate does not move at the same rate as the zinc core during striking, making the copper plate split and making it appear to be doubled, but it really isn't.
