I was just looking at a proof set of 1984 coins and noticed Lincoln has what looks like a die-crack running from his forehead to his jacket collar. My first error coin find since learning about them within a few months. It looks as if the die-crack is a "welp" across his face. Anyone heard of this? I dont have a scanner to post a pic.

Are Proof sets examined at all before they sell them?

I believe they do spot checks only.

Here is the cent in question. The die crack starts on forehead and goes all the way down to his collar.

Yup, looks like a die crack - not all that common on Proof coins.

So, since it is a Proof die-crack would that make it worth a little more to an error collector? I dont plan on selling it just curious to know what this type of error may be worth.

I can't offer much help on value, but I doubt the premium would be signicant.

2 other possiblities on this one, a die gouge, or more likely, bubbling in the plating.
