Hi I have a 1984D penny with an odd mark on its side, probably PMD but I want to make sure. Thank you everyone. 1984 D penny date mm.jpg 1984 D penny obv.jpg 1984 D penny rev.jpg

@Laurie B your photos are too blurry to really tell what is going on. If the area in question is raised, then it could be an internal die break, causing a die chip. If you don't see any metal pushed up around the area, which would mean it is most likely just damage, then the chances are it's a die chip. Better photos will bring more, and maybe better, answers. Also, remember it is a zinc coin, so we have the possibility of it being a bubble and/or zinc rot.

I looked at this even closer than before it looks like metal to me.

Keep in mind that it is struck on a Copper Plated Zinc planchet. It is probably a Plating bubble/blister.

The mint mark looks a bit low but that’s not a big deal. The raised area to the left of the mint mark is a plating blister.
