How do you know if it damaged? give some explanation, please. Those 2 notches on "4" is damaged? and the devices is larger how could you explain that? I am learning so I need more detail why and how you come up with damage. Thanks in advance
If you've never looked at a true doubled die I would suggest you do so! This looks nothing like a doubled die. The device is flattened out and adds nothing to the 4. Doubling would not be limited to just one device. Please read http://doubleddie.com/144801.html This really helped me to understand doubling and the minting process! Also error-ref.com is a great reading site. I was in your position in the beginning and questioned all answers because I didn't fully understand the minting process. Once you understand this you can then ask yourself how could this happen during the minting process. Sooo how could the 4 on your coin been damaged that way during the minting process? Was the working die loose? Possibly but damage would not be limited to one device. Even if it was this would fall under MD..... Could it happen from a worn die? Possibly but that falls under DDD.. ..... Now all you have left is PMD which is what you have here!
Doubling is/was the worst for me to learn. Still trying to nail it down. Once you understand the "process" of minting then it becomes a hair easier and for your sake I hope you become a pro at it!
