1984 D Jefferson, with an S in front of his head...?

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by Jessica Cioffi, Sep 5, 2021.

  1. Hey guys I have a 1984 D Jefferson here and he looks to have an S on the obverse where it shouldn’t be. I was thinking maybe a die clash but I don’t see an s that would line up in that spot. Maybe a misplaced S mint mark...? That would be awesome lol. 1F189D19-84E2-4B4C-8280-ED69FBFF2706.jpeg 10F40629-D498-42EB-BE14-C5973641D5DD.jpeg 44A729A6-D844-4BF2-8718-227B235777E6.jpeg

Interesting don't think its a dropped letter my best is to say man made/counterstamp etc- damage, better pictures would help.

Looks like an engraving toolbit on a Dremel skipped and bounced a bit, and then someone rubbed it to try and dull it down and failed

To me it looks to be a spot of solder. Definitely not an S or any other letter.

To me, it looks like pareidolia in the form of a baby King Cobra.

  7. I pulled this coin from a set so unless someone from the mint did that to the coin it’s not man made.

It could have been switched in the set. Who knows. Midnight minter is possible, I guess.

Can you show the set you pulled it from?

Are you sure it was a mint set and not an aftermarket set of some kind? It looks a bit beat up for a mint set coin.
