Hi everyone, Know I am probably wrong but is there notching on some of the lettering in Liberty and IGWT? I can load more pics if needed. Thanks
I think it is wear and tear ( looks like it got caught up in a mechanical coin counter of cent gumball machine and the arm swept across above Liberty), I see no true doubling. That age coin is a double squeeze era coin and both sections should be the same height. The first below is a maximum good way to show that. Notice how the numbers merge as they cross over each other, you can tell that the height the same. Now this one 1909DDO is much less and if you look closely ( better in hand than photo) the doubling is slightly raised as both die setting strikes were quite difference in strength , like the diesetter didn't hit a full force. Like me sometimes tapping the head of a nail with hammer gently and then hard force. Maybe this helps , but ask any others . It takes time to become easier. Jim
Thank you for the information. It has me perplexed due to the wear and circulation damage as you indicated and just wanted the experts to verify PMD.
Too much wear for analysis, IMO. There may be some doubling on "LIB" but I think it is MD. No premium regardless, not enough to interest any collector, IMO, but keep on searching, they're out there in the wild, somewhere.
