Meow has commented on another quarter in a earlier thread about this coin in NGC. Meow just remembered that Meow had one in the Cat hoard, PCGS graded. Let us continue the discussion if you will, please.
This one seems to be on par with the other 1983. It also has hits, although in different areas. The luster looks to have the potential to be decent from the photos. The spots (to the right of Washington) are somewhat distracting. I would grade this one MS 65
I think the strike on this one is not as good as mike's coin. More marks and the reverse just isn't as clean to me. The birds breast feathers are not as clear and detailed as mike's either. I hate those white milky spots on a coin. I'm guessing 64 maybe even 63. Yet I am envious of both these coins. I bought a '83 SSet recently, I need to pull it out and compare it to both of you'alls. Don't keep is in suspense too long with the grade!
The shinier the coin, the harder it is to photograph. Meow finds using a light source one can move around by changing the angle and elevation really helps.
A very fine example from that period. Not very many coins from back then were saved in large quantities, so good examples are lacking.
If that other one was a 65, then I'd have to guess at least 65+ on this one. The strike is better, and there are less marks. The luster appears stronger than the previous one as well.
I guess I am not picking up on this grading thing as well as I thought I was since I said the opposite of everything you just did LOL!
OK all Meow will reveal its grade. In some ways its nicer than the other quarter because it looks to have less contact marks. But it does have some light staining detracting from its over all beauty. So with this one, Meow thinks the grade is fair. Thanks all for your input.
I like this coin graded at 65. I still maintain the other one should be a 64, regardless of what the plastic says. Your coin is better for the grade.
