What do you guys think of this 1983 .. here's four pictures of the copper laying between the 9 and 8 in 1983. Possible dropped number?
Sorry Bob, That is not what is causing the raised metal with the obvious look of corrosion on the lower right side of the spot in question. On cents dated after the 1982 change of composition to copper-plated zinc, we see a lot of bubbling under the plating as well as a lot of rot that effects the surface of the coin. In cases where the corrosion does not break through the plating, we see exactly the effect that is on this coin. Also, even though the original picture is small, the numeral 8 is still fairly nicely struck , as 1983 cents go. It's not a worn die. Thanks, Bill
I got to looking at coin auctions at proxibid and I came across a coin that looks something like yours, it's at proxibid under western asset reserve auction lot # 79. They are calling it a bridged error but it's a 1960 Lincoln. Bob
