I had received this 1983 "d" penny that looks interesting to me. I as woundering if this is real, if not how can one tell. Also if real what type of errors whould these been classified under. The only reason I think it may be real is because the back of the coin over the lincoln memorial the gridlines are raised overtop the lincoln memorial, as if there is extra material. Please take a look and I would apperaciate all opinions. Thank you.
well, snow, I had a coin once that looked like the obverse of yours. it was actually glue. another coin got stuck to it with glue, and left its impression in it. then the second penny got broken off, leaving the glue. Although, i am not sure about the reverse.
This is what is called a hammer / squeeze job. the reverse side of another coin has been pressed into this coin . this is easy to tell from the damage to the coins rim and the damaged reverse side.
WELCOME TO COIN TALK... Here is one Example of a Legitimate errors with Lincoln memorial on a dime plancet. also with Crack die variety.
Thank You, Here is the Photograph of Obverse and the Video too.
I have to agree that is is a hammer job. You can also tell because the coin which was applied on top is on the coin, not incused on or in between the original coins design(if that makes sense to you). Welcome to the board!
and snowbabyk, he had this one on ebay for 10 mill so keep looking out and maybe you will find somthing awesome like this too.
If I had a penny on a dime for every time i've seen this... I would have a lot of pennies on dimes...
No, what you need to do is go to eBay, under U.S. Coins, just sort all of the listings by highest price to lowest, then you'll see this one right there on top (with it's nice little story of how it was obtained), asking 10 million dollars for it when there are actually other penny on dime errors similar to this one for a couple thousand and even those people can't sell them because these coins are not worth that much. I'd pay 11 cents for it, because I couldn't decide whether or not it was a penny or an actual dime. Or I'll save you time and link you to the auction directly: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1995-P-Penn...Individual&hash=item1c2291c3a1#ht_3984wt_1174
I love how it looks like he set the coin case it's in down on his socks in his sock drawer and took the pic. For a coin that would be worth that much, I would have a professional take pics for me... So does any1 actually know if this is one of a kind?
Technically, every error coin is one of a kind, unless the mint made the mistake and created hundreds or thousands before catching them. There are other penny on dimes, I saw one for $3500 on eBay that I thought was cooler looking than this one. This seller is gonna be trying to sell this coin on eBay for 8.5 million until the day they likely die at that price. I don't think anyone in their right mind would buy it outright at that price, ever! If you read his story behind the coin, he'd likely have been better off taking the cash instead of the error coin.
http://articles.cnn.com/2002-07-30/us/double.eagle_1_coin-mint-pure-gold?_s=PM:US After a very nice double eagle sold for 7 mil and change, I dont think that would go for more
Exactly! I think the seller is just fooling himself with deception that they think someone is gonna pay 8.5 million or more for a clad penny error that really isn't that special. It's worth 8.5 million to him, which is his right to believe but to everyone else, it's not nearly worth that much.
will you accept $ 7 million? Just to let everyone knows I received an offer on my eBay messages board from one eBayer. This messaged sent on Jan 12,2013 12: 09 Am. Hello, this seems like a good value, but would you accept $7 million?
