1983 P with die scratch? or something else?

    How about you analyzing this anomaly and giving us your opinion why it is or isn't. It's very easy for someone to tell you, but you are more likely to remember if you do it yourself.

    It is a ripple in the plating. If you press your fingernail into it it will dent> Don't do it though as it looks neat as is!

    Sorry Chris, our posts crossed. BTW, I like your post but I've been "blasted" here for trying to lead folks to answer their own question.

    thank you kindly. I have never heard of a ripple in the plating. is it something that would be classified as an error?

    They are called plating errors. Mostly seen as little bubbles and thin streaks when the first zincs came out. Now less common especially large as yours. No special value but large ones like yours are neat,
