Found his 1983 P while going through rolls. Not sure what to call it . It also has die cracks at the bottom of the steps on both sides. First post here. Not the best looking '83 p. Jeff
Kind a looks like machine doubling to me but I’m not the best at doubling but I do see a die crack coming off the bottom of the Memorial
First off, that is classic MD…flat and shelf-like. Second…the coin looks to be a copper plated zinc but you really should weigh it…on the x-tremely rare off chance it weighs 3.11 grams. It would mean it is a copper planchet and only the third of its kind ever found…don’t hold your breath and don’t hope beyond hope… jmho…Spark
Welcome to Coin Talk. Die cracks on Lincoln Cents are relatively common on the corners of the Memorial Building. Here's a few good sites to check for Doubled Die coins: 1) https://doubleddie.com/828823.html 2) http://www.varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/DDR 1983.htm I also think Your coins shows MD.
Thanks for the replies. I weighed the coin after I posted the pics it was 2.60. So it’s not copper. I will go ahead and put it in a 2x2 for my collection. Jeff
Welcome to CT Jeff. The zinc plated cents tend to have many issues. Your coin appears to be MD and is fairly common on the newer coins. Keep up the search and good luck.
