Did the best I could with photos. I see die deterioration but part of the hair and letters E & R 1983 P kennedy Half error.jpg is missing also. The green you see is not covering anything up. This coin also has a halo around the bust. Any ideas? Thanks. Tom 1983 P kennedy error 2.jpg

Imo, an eager beaver mint worker has over-polished the die. Which does NOT explain the hair details missing unless it was a weak strike. Hmmmmmmm
Another possibility is a grease filled die:woot:

It does look like it may have been weakly struck. Is the bridge of his nose missing also? There also doesn't appear to be any hair details near the nape of the neck.

Old die with a clash that has been polished away, weak strike as evidenced by plachet marks on Rim and Kennedy's face, and a bit of struck thru debris around the letter? ...and a fingerprint, don't forget the fingerprint.

No, the bridge of the nose is there, poor photo quality. There are vertical but fine die polishing marks also. Just on the obverse. Much of the hair detail , especially at the back of the head is also weak or not here.

Not my fingerprint! ;) Circulation find. I can probably get that off.

And lest I forget, another Philly coin (hint, hint). Die used to death. I just wish the clash was there, would have even more interesting.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

The lettering and numerals (especially the date) are also bloated and distorted. This is known as "die deterioration doubling".
