when checking 1/2 dollars that i had accumulated over the years and noticed this 1/2 dollar did not have the designers initial under the wing. Would the cause be a grease filled die. Thank you
I would need a better close-up to be able to tell because I'm pretty blind. There are some where the designer's initials were completely polished out of the die. There are others that were only partially polished out of the die, and there may be others which could have been the result of a grease-filled die. Below are examples of one where the designer's initials were completely removed and one where they were only partially removed, and just to add a little variety to the discussion, I've also included one that was partially removed and has a plugged tail, to boot. All three are 1982-P. Perhaps others would be able to tell you, but I can't. Chris
Thank You. I see what you are saying, noticed a few others where there are only partial initials. New to this and am still learning.
These are known errors. There are 1982 No FG errors, 1983 no FG errors, and I have found multiples of both. They carry a small premium. The more rare one is a 1972D No FG error.....I haven't found that one and it demands a nice premium. So, nice find!
The Kennedy without the FG can be a high price coin.:kewl: but the graded is the key that make the value go up.you but a MS-63-64 no FG for $30-45.00 but in MS-66 and above is the ones that the value goes up but this may help. http://www.pcgs.com/PRICES/PriceGuideDetail.aspx?MS=1&PR=1&SP=1&c=125&title=Kennedy+Half+Dollar
