I'm new. Dont know much about this. My father collected pennies. Mostly wheat pennies. He left them to me and there has got to be a million of them. He has a roll filled with each year. And underneath, a garbage bag, full of more wheat pennies.
I started reading up to see if any are worth anything. And I tried to look for the silver penny, any other year than 1943. But he doesnt have any. All the pennies hes ever collected, were picked up off the street. I have a couple things I noticed spot on , from year 58 and 56. It looked brand new, like a new 90s penny, and the rest were yellowish..
Anyways my point to this post, is my friend told me I have something big. So I wanted to post it here, through my phone, and see if anyone could tell me if he was right, or if its nothing. Also, if there is something that you think he could have, from picking up pennies for 59 years, that is worth a ton, let me know.
    Anyways here is the pic.
Srry for spelling and how big of a newb I am.
I believe it is a 1983 penny, but who knows. It saids 83 on it. Is it worth anything? Thanks for your time .

Very nice off center cent! I am no error expert, I am sure they will be along but I would think it would be worth in the $20 area.

Welcome to Coin Talk. Your coin is an "Off-Center Strike".
Looks to be approximately 40% off-center.
I think $20. is very high even for a buyers price. but that is only my opinion.
The selling price is always lower. And condition will determine value.
You should not hold any coin of value in the Palm of your hand, and in particular a copper plated Zinc coin. the acids from your hands will/can cause damage.

In 1943 Cents were struck on Zinc Coated Steel Planchets. They were not Silver Planchets. There were a few (very few) transitional 1944 Cents struck on left over Steel Planchets from 1943. Those are extremely rare.
