Lets see if I can go 2 for 2 tonight on getting a correct coin error right. This 83 has what appears to be a clash on the reverse this is also pulled from a roll tonight. Im bored and trying to teach myself. In the bay's of the memorial there are some marks that look like clashes.
Eric, if the suspected clash is supposed to represent the bridge of the nose and Lincoln's chin, shouldn't it be in the right-most area of the Memorial? Chris
yes it is a clash and it is the most common event seen on memorial cents, it is the back of Lincoln's coat starting at top of the bay, to the nape of his neck at the bottom..
should be, but I never said what was in the bays other than a clash. I can see what Ken said about the coat and the nape of the neck. This is only the second clash I've ever seen personally but I've never really looked for them before so I wanted to see if I was right
but we are not talking about die cracks here, are we..let me rephrase, the most common area of a clash event on LMC's.....
Throw all those die crack coins away lol.... When I first started searching rolls I saved most anything unusual. I had boxes of flips with minor errors. Now that I have about a half dozen real doubled dies I realized all the other coins were crap. I got rid of 90% of my "error coins". I don't want my wife and kids to think they are anything of value when I pass away. The real doubled die coins I have are slabbed or about to be slabbed.
Well I wont exactly throw them away but i'm saving anything with major cracks and other small errors and giving them to YN that I know who would appreciate them. I figured it would spark curiosity and they themselves would get into the hobby. I only have found one FOR SURE DD thats the 95, I have a 1980 that one person here said looked interesting and another said MD and I am leaning to a small DD. Congrats on your DD's they are hard to come by. I am learning myself cause I got out of the hobby for a while so im relearning things
I didn't mean to be a jerk so I apologize. It is frustrating trying to find something good. I am as guilty as anyone else on here. I see newbies desperately trying to find a great coin but they have no idea what a great coin looks like. That's how I was at first. That's why it's frustrating to me to read about it. Keep looking amigo. Seek and ye shall find
I didnt think you were being a jerk at all I actually thought your post was nice. I dont get offended easy. I am no expert on coins so I take all advice and opinions I may come across as a jerk myself sometimes and I dont mean to be its just how I come across sometimes. I like posting here I like showing off new things I find while roll searching it helps me learn and others that are interested in all forms of mint error's, varieties, ECT can see how the mint made a mistake big or small, worth money or not
