I am pretty sure about this one, the doubled areas are full height, show seperation(in the 8 of the date is easiest to see) and are not flat. The shots are where it is easiest to see in the coin, the doubling is evident
my red book does not show a DDO for '83 D cent, but there's one for just '83--- it looks like MD to me, but it's a beginner speaking.
I don't think it is a doubled die. And to Ricky: the redbook only lists the major doubled dies, like 1955, 1972, etc. There are thousands more of major and minor doubled dies listed in online archives. Not a doubled die. It looks like it may have been damaged by heat. With copper plated zinc cents, the zinc core melts at a much lower temperature than the copper plating, so you can heat them up and the zinc underneath starts to melt and pull away from the copper plating. This is most noticeable in the devices. The copper sinks in leaving these collapsed style letters and numbers.
