1983-D Washington Quarter Pocket Change find, is it a GEM?

    Looks AU to me.

    I can see wear in Washington's hair.

    Anything from '82 & '83, AU and up, are keepers. IMHO

    It is a keeper but I was hoping it was going to be at least an ms63.

    Nice find BigTee. I agree with AU though. I suspect it has many luster breaks. Still, for an 83-D, it's a nice example.

    Good news/ bad news.

    The bad news is that it wouldn't even be a Gem if it were unc. I'd call it AU-55.

    The good news is that it's the tougher type "d" reverse making it quite keepable. It's never going to be scarce or valuable but when people start looking for the different reverses this will be in the best 50,000 coins or so.
