Hey guys and gals I was wanting to know if this one would qualify as a fs101. And if so what grade level with the quality of the pictures. Thank you very much I appreciate it. 20170708_150526.jpg 20170708_150649.jpg 20170708_150950_HDR.jpg

I'm not seeing a match on the ear and 101 has many PUP's to match up, which your one sole shot of ignores.

Does the eye, date and mint mark shape and placement match?

    Nice ear shot though.

Well from hear me looking at it under my loupe of course the date in the eye looks the same. But the picture you showed me the ear looks a little different.

Thank you for the comment on the earshot but I owe it to you spending that time with me yesterday and teach me how to use that loupe in my camera thank you.

    I couldn't match it to any DDO(s) .
Could be a RPM, but I need an image of the date and mint mark ..

You Sir, are welcome and ring me anytime. Your very rapid improvements will hopefully make this pursuit much more gratifying and far less frustrating.

You certainly are a very quick study and you owe me nary a thing.

If you take a napkin's straight edge to your screen on the D's upright, and hopefully on a big monitor and not on a tiny handheld, you'll see the MM may not be placed exactly as the 101's MM is.

Now I realize your shot isn't taken from directly over head and to do this comparison I'm talking about, that is required. Doing so will be a bit tricky with what you have to work with.

From an angle of course, you get distortion due to disappearing vantage points and those lines of convergence.

Common to verify is to triangulate from three key points from the date to the MM.

Really amazing progress on your part.

Well I appreciate that now I'm going to go back and see if I can find a nice camera because I've only been using my iPhone since I return the other one. So I'm going to look around and see what I can find there's got to be one out there that a dummy can use.

There are many that will do it for less than 100 new retail and great deals on used ones to be had on ebay and craigslist. Get you one and a microscope stand (dirt cheap on ebay and let me know if you want me to keep an eye out for you one) and you won't need a copy stand.

Something that will connect to your PC via wifi or bluetooth will make things very nice.

Take your young bride to the electronics stores, test fly several and make notes!

Some of the sales people will allow you to insert your micro-sd card (typically you'll need it in a much larger SD adapter, so you can look at your pictures at home on a large monitor.

The phone stores generally won't because of the anti-theft although they have been known to allow you to try out their personal phones and email the pix to you, or send you a link to google drive where they may prefer to upload them for sharing with you in the largest size available. Gmail has a 25MB file size limit. Dropbox or Google drive have file size limits large enough it is not a concern.

If you want to spend 4 bills, world class results with not too steep a learning curve, can be had with change back.

I detected no dummy when we spoke. Try harder next time! :)

Sounds good I may do that holler at you when I get ready, I've got an 81 here man it has a ton of lines from top to bottom front and back I've never seen one of those. I might try to load it here shortly unless you can give me a hint.

Well I guess I missed that I've g 20170708_172137_HDR.jpg 20170708_172300_HDR.jpg one through 1200 pennies today. But I haven't ran acrossed anything like this I thought it was kind of unusual.

Any of you gentlemen, ever been into Jared Jewelry .
They have one hell of a set up in there for viewing diamonds .

Last time I went in there by my house, they let me look at some of my coins . I spent some money in there too ..

That one looks like it was struck from some rare south American exotic hardwood.

Poorly mixed alloy is the cause and I keep all woodies and all copper pennies anyhow.

It does have some peculiarly fat letters for an 81D. Can't tell if they got mashed by a hit although some of them appear fatter than the only other one for that coin.

I'd put a little star on its flip and peek at it when I had other 81d's to compare it. Some cents have very delicate and fine devices while other vintages have fatter ones.

Stash, that is generally what I use as a daily driver for coin inspection.

Quite a different experience than a loupe or even digital scope, huh?

Do the devices on this woody strike you as being fatter than what is commonly seen on an 81?

I just think the environment, mixture of alloy and the way the coin was stored, all play a roll . I also think, no woody have the exact same color, or appearance .

    Here's a 1916 I own .
