I have run across a few pennies that are corroding. This one is the worst. Is this typical for the copper/zinc penny or is it a bad planchet?
This is a typical rotten cent. this is what happens to the zinc cents when exposed to the elements, they rot away then our cent is gone.
Mom: Is he gonna be okay? Doctor: Looks like Abe has a terrible case of.... Zinc Rot. Mom: NOOO, my little Abey! Doctor: I'll give you a moment or two alone with him....
I don't like the Zincolns for this reason. I never want to re-roll them because they just look horrible and deserve better. These go straight to the garbage when I roll search. I wish I weren't throwing my money away like that. Darned verdigris and zinc rot.
Not entirely. It's still a valid form of US currency... Spend it as you please. Though, there ain't much you can get with a single cent nowadays. Have fun with you're rotten Zincoln, dude! :thumb: -Brian
I actually remember a 1999 WAM being half of a cent due to zinc rot, and throwing that away. My only 1999 WAM being a waste.
I have a few questions: How long ago did that happen? What trash collector service do you use? What type of trash bags do you use? Where is the nearest landfill to our home?
