1983 BIE Lincoln Cent

I found this the other day. I didnt even know there was a 1983 BIE was out there.

That's a definite keeper-good job! What's with that L above and left of the L in Liberty? Is it camera distortion?

 

I dont know what that is I was wondering myself thought maybe it was just a plating issue.

Yes.

 

There is something called a dropped digit/letter. A die cavity might get gummed up and a piece falls out and is struck into the next planchet. It will adhere to the coin or fall away leaving a shallow impression. But this is pretty chaotic. What I see in the image looks to be in perfect aligment with the other L, just in different spot. Can you check again under a different light source?

Above and left of L in Liberty??? I don't see anything in that location.

 

You need to find a different spot and different light source. Try low light and tilting the coin. I believe you and the camera are seeing a reflection. Bad lighting can play bad tricks on your eyes some times.

I just looked at it its more like a scrape.

 

what would this BIE be worth? cause I cant find anything on a 1983 BIE.

 

My wild guess would be $8-12.

BIEs are relatively less common on more modern dates. I'd say perhaps $5 on ebay.
