I Just picked one up off the bay for under melt. I think it's a nice looking coin but it seems like they are all going pretty cheap, if at all.

Mine is slabbed SGS MS70. I also got a 1964 Kennedy SGS MS70.

I know this Slabbing company is worthless. If the coins actually end up being sharp is it worth reslabbing them, or will there be no return with coins this common?

Crack it out and keep it for bullion.

I would say no don't send them in. They aren't rare coins and the chances of them coming back as MS70 from NGC or PCGS are slim. So now you just killed any profit margin.

    Bet you $500 it's not a MS70?

SGS is known as a basement grader and over grades everything, and slaps a MS/PR70 on every modern coin minted in the past 20 years. They have no standards, or experience.

If that were a PCGS or NGC MS70, that coin would have had a price tag of much more than melt on it.

As Doug said, crack it out and enjoy it for what it is, for it isn't what the label says.

The Pics of the coins I bought are to small to see what type of condition they are in. I did look up some other coins slabbed by this company as I had never heard of them though and found someone selling a PF70.

I've never graded a coin in my life. never researched how to do it at all yet. Add to that It was an ebay pic and I could still tell it was a bad rating. it had several nicks that were very clear and visible. That caused me to read up on the company.

How can it be that I am a better grader than whoever they are employing?!? :bangg:

I have a half dozen of each of the proof and uncirculated of the GW Commem still in the OGP. I bought the entire lot from a dealer for $25 about 7 years ago.

Just enjoy them. Don't get them re-slabbed unless if gives you a warm fuzzy feeling of someone else slapping a grade on them for ya.

I for the most part don't like slabbed coins b/c they are not pretty to display inside the slabs. I have to admit I do feel a little fuzzy to have a couple graded coins though even though it is a crap company.

At some point I will want to send something in, just to have the experience. I will wait for the right coin to come along though.

They're not grading, they're marketing. A 70 will sell for more than a 65 so we'll put 70 on it.

Another thing they'll do is grade it PR70 or MS70 just because they broke it out of the original mint packaging. We all know that the mint takes less than exceptional care when handling their product and die wear during production is a big factor too.
