Found this today in pocket change. I think it’s a small date. But I don’t have my scale with me to see if it’s copper .

Looks like it, small date. There's plenty regular ones out there whether copper or zinc ones.

Now you know what a small date looks like.

But remember, there's only ONE 1982 D (Denver) small date copper penny.

    1952 – 1982 is 95% Copper and 5% Tin & Zinc; 3.11 grams
    1982 – Current is 97.5% Zinc and 2.5% Copper; 2.5 grams

The 7 Business Strike Varieties (8 total with the 1 rare one):

    LARGE DATE Philadelphia
    • 1982 Large Date Copper
    • 1982 Large Date Copper plated Zinc

    SMALL DATE Philadelphia
    • 1982 Small Date Copper <-- you have THIS (I think this)
    • 1982 Small Date Copper plated Zinc <-- or THIS

    LARGE DATE “D” - Denver
    • 1982 D Large Date Copper
    • 1982 D Large Date Copper plated Zinc

    SMALL DATE “D” - Denver
    • 1982 D Small Date Copper plated Zinc
    • 1982-D small date copper (1 known to exist). This is the one all the fake youtube videos are made for thinking you can find one making it seem they are readily available and easily found.
There is also a 1982-S Large Date which is not included because it is a PROOF.

Curious as to why this starts at 1952.

    This is my understanding...

    SMALL CENTS
    Diameter: 19mm; plain edge

    Copper-nickel: 4.67g; 0.880 copper, 0.120 nickel [1856-1864]

    Bronze: 3.11g; 0.950 copper, 0.050 tin and zinc [1864-1909; 1909-1942; 1947-1962]

    Zinc-coated Steel: 2.70g; 0.990 steel, 0.010 zinc [1943]

    Brass: 3.11g; 0.950 copper, 0.050 zinc [1944-1946 i.e. shell casing; 1963-1982]

Copper-plated zinc: 2.50g; core: 0.992 zinc, 0.008 copper, with a plating of pure copper; total content 0.975 zinc, 0.025 copper [1982-present]

No I said I'm done with this garbage. How many man hours have we wasted answering the same question over and over? Nobody listens anyways. They don't get the response they were looking for and then are never heard from again.
I've been having a lot more fun with my ancients the last few weeks. I miss CRH a bit but not as much as I thought I would. I've got about $400 unsearched coins I need to get through and take to the bank but I have had zero desire to do it.

There has been an interesting shift though.
1st it was, Is this a doubled die? OK that's a fair question. Many coins show doubling
(usually not the valuable kind) and new people aren't going to know the difference.
Then there was a spate of: I have a 1982-D small date copper.
    No you don't.
And now the hot topic is: Coins minted on foreign planchets.
