My wife got this bad ass 1982 silver penny as part of her tip money at shownys 8 years ago. It sticks to a magnet barley. Can chrome be magnetic? I seen a 1981 on here but he never got a for sure answer. If anyone can help that would be cool.

Chrome isn't magnetic , but nickel is at room temperature, so it is probably nickel plating. Be cautious with handling as nickel can serious skin and allergy disorders.

Nickel would be super shiny? And nickel is only magnetic at room temp that's crazy so I should stick it in the freezer over night and see if it still sticks? But thank you I will look that up and I want let my 4 year old near it

Sometimes amateur or small scale plating company may use coins as easy test subjects. Really no way of knowing.

Got my penny weighed today they said it weighed as much as 2pennys they said it doesn't tell them in grams they just know it weighs the same as 2 Penny's. And I took it to my local pawn shop he told me its a 1982 steel penny lol o well.

It weighs more because someone applied another layer of plating after it left the mint...it is not an error.

Its still super cool after 8+ pulse years since I got it still looks the same. I'm sure your right a coin dealer guy also told me it was a test penny in 1982 they where trying to make a new metal for this year and told me its worth a couple bucks but everyone I took it to this week said something different.

What is it plated by to make it a little magnetic? I trust y'all more then the people I took it to I do think they where all dumb a steel penny would be super magnetic and was only made in 1943 u know this but I also read you can't plate a penny from 1982 on down for some reason you can take take the copper off to make it look like mine but you can't plate it. Internet is full of stories I understand that. But I'm just tryin
OK cool I read online that you can't plate anything from 1982 in down for some weird reason but you can take the copper off I understand the internet is full of stories. But what do you think its plated with?

Cause metal you can't on a penny Nicole yes but I also read its only magnetic in room tempeture. This penny is magnetic in any tempeture. What else could it be??

What else could it be? One thing, that's for sure... worthless. Sell it to anyone who is willing to pay more than 1 cent in a heartbeat.

Uggh... You don't get it. They won't say a "1982 silver cent" ever existed because some kid was playing with science and created the plated cent. The 1943 steel cent was OFFICIAL. One exception is the 1943 copper cent, but this was a mint error, not anything else.

Lol you don't get it the only science experiment with Penny's that are coated with something is the 1983 Penny's and up. You can't coat a 1982 penny and younger look it up you could take the copper of that is it but would that make my penny magnetic?
